Toluca Lake

Toluca Lake is a 1.22 square mile neighborhood with a population of more than 8,000 in over 4,000 households. Inhabited successively by Tongva Indians, Spanish, Mexican and American settlers, by the early 20th century it was known as Rancho Forman Toluca, a vast holding where the owners raised apples, peaches and walnuts.  Beginning in 1923, the neighborhood was developed as the first bedroom community of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley.  The natural lake that gives the neighborhood its name was given an asphalt bottom in the 1930s as part of the flood control project that channelized the L.A. River.  During the the Golden Age of Hollywood, Toluca Lake became the home of stars such as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra; it remains a favorite address of the entertainment industry today, and a welcoming community for hardworking Angelenos in all walks of life.
