COUNCIL APPROVES BUDGET 2021-22

Today, the Los Angeles City Council approved the Budget and Finance Committee’s recommendations for changes to the 2021-22 city budget that will restore services, programming, and investment in the Department of Recreation and Parks to levels not seen in more than a decade. CALIFORNIA’S LARGEST VILLAGE OF TINY HOMES TO SHELTER THE HOMELESS OPENS IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD

COUNCIL PASSES HISTORIC MEASURE LIMITING DISPERSAL OF PLASTIC UTENSILS

Members of the Los Angeles City Council heralded the passage today of a landmark ordinance that prevents restaurants from providing single use utensils except when specifically requested by customers. The ordinance, which goes into effect for larger restaurants in November, reflects the City’s determination to restrict the dumping of tons of environmentally-destructive plastic waste into our oceans and waterways. KREKORIAN, O’FARRELL MOVE FOR 100 PERCENT CLEAN ENERGY BY 2035

Los Angeles would achieve a 100% clean energy grid by 2035 under a proposal by City Councilmembers Paul Krekorian and Mitch O’Farrell -- a full decade faster than state requirements. The Krekorian/O’Farrell motion, seconded by Council President Nury Martinez, instructs the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to present a Strategic Long Term Resource Plan that sets the 100% deadline and identifies the projects that must be implemented immediately to achieve it. Council President Martinez, Councilmember Krekorian request $150M from the federal government to front fund 10,000 hotel rooms

LOS ANGELES — Council President Nury Martinez and Councilmember Paul Krekorian introduced a motion today to formally request through the California Office of Emergency Services an advance of $150,000,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide 10,000 hotel rooms to house people experiencing homelessness for the next 6 months. COUNCIL COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER HISTORIC PLAN FOR 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY AT LADWP

In 2016, Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Krekorian authored a landmark motion, co-presented with Councilmember Mike Bonin, calling on the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) to develop and implement a plan to switch to 100 percent renewable energy. METRO BOARD APPROVES EAST SAN FERNANDO VALLEY LIGHT RAIL PROJECT

The Metro Board today approved the final configuration of the East San Fernando Valley Corridor project, which will be the first light rail transit line in the Valley since the demise of the Red Cars in 1952. The project will connect the Van Nuys Metro station with the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station, servicing busy commercial corridors and densely populated residential areas in the Valley.
