Youth Leadership Academy

ABOUT THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Councilmember Paul Krekorian is proud to announce that applications are now open for the 2023 class of the San Fernando Valley Youth Leadership Academy, a summer leadership development program for high school students that will train and cultivate the next generation of young leaders in our community. The youth leadership academy is seeking students who are thoughtful, responsible and inquisitive about the functions and purpose of our city government. Candidates should possess a desire to make their community a better place.

During the academy, students will learn about the role of city government and participate in fun, practical projects that directly impact San Fernando Valley residents. Topics include youth empowerment and education, homelessness and social services, sustainability and protecting the environment, emergency response and preparedness, city planning and infrastructure, public transportation, jobs and the economy, outreach and public relations, and careers in public service. Students will also complete interesting research projects that grapple with the challenges facing our city and help develop problem-solving skills.

ELIGIBILITY

The youth leadership academy is open to all high school students who live in the San Fernando Valley portion of the city of Los Angeles.
